TIZIMIN.
Like many places and towns of Yucatan, it still goes by the name it was given by the Maya before the Spanish Conquest. The seat of today’s municipality of Tizimin, “Place of the Tapir”, was raised on a site which, in prehispanic times, formed part of the province of the Cupules.
TICUL.
Being part of both the Puuc Route and the Convent Route, Ticul has a privileged position. “The Pearl of the South” is the perfect place to visit and rest when following either of these excursions, and to enjoy an unforgettable cultural experience.
TEKAX.
Tekax has everything, and is just 120 km from Merida. Mayan pyramids, colonial buildings, caves, etc. “The place of the forests” offers wonders without equal and all in one place, making this destination representative of all there is to find in Yucatan, and therefore, a must.
MUNA.
“Agua Nueva”, “New Water” has a temple and the ex-convent of the Assumption. Built in the 17th century their interest lies in the lateral gables, each of three parts, and the triangular detail which finishes off the façade.
TECOH.
A visit to the church and the convent dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption is in order here. Built on the base of a Mayan pyramid, the church has a number of carved stones, an impressive altar and many paintings. Take a break at the tourist stop to discover the variety of crafts worked by Yucatecan hands.
MAMA.
The temple and ex-Franciscan convent were founded in the year 1612 and to the front display a beautiful bell tower which you can’t help but admire. There is an enclosed atrium; one of the most famous in the region. Behind the building there is a beautiful garden, a waterwheel and saints in every niche.
